Vile Village is a 2014 Wii U game developed by Unversed Entertainment, and a crossover between various Nintendo villains. The game follows an obscure villain of the player's choice arriving at a place where forgotten Nintendo villains stay, known as Vile Village. However, the villain can become a super star if he pulls of evil tasks and one by one defeats some of Nintendo's greatest foes. The game was inspired by a forum post on IGN about Fawful and other obscure Nintendo villains teaming up to defeat the big Nintendo villains. The gameplay is a top-down action RPG with Animal Crossing elements.
The gameplay is akin to two Nintendo series, Animal Crossing and The Legend of Zelda. Players explore Vile Village, where they can walk around, do tasks to find decor, and buy things to customize their evil lair. The main goal of the game is to beat out the other famous villains though. To be able to face off against these villains in boss battles, the player must do evil tasks at the Trouble Center. There are various types of evil tasks. The first is the Coup, where the player must reach the end of a stage and defeat a mini-boss. The second is Robbery, where the player must steal something and escape without getting caught. The third is Rampage, where the player must defeat all minions in a stage. These stages all play out in an action RPG top down way, where the player can equip various items and defeat enemies, as well as solving puzzles.
The villain of the player's choice(Fawful, Wart, Tatanga, Majora's Mask, Yin-Yarn, Polar Bear, or Black Shadow) arrive at the land where forgotten Nintendo villains go, Vile Village. However, they soon overhear that if they can prove their villainy and defeat Bowser, Mewtwo, King Dedede, Ganondorf, and Ridley, they can become a true villain once more. They begin their quest!
