Some stages were replaced such as Battlefield and Mushroomy Kingdom.
New stages added such as Giygas' Torment and Beginnings.
Pac-Man jumped back on the 3rd installment! His moveset from the fourth installment was slightly changed in order to fit on the Brawl psychics and gameplay. Pac-Man also has a new Final Smash, the Power Pallet, which works like Sonic's Super Sonic Final Smash, turning Pac-Man into Super Pac-Man, from Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures.
Bomberman joins the Smash! Bomberman uses different kinds of bombs for his moveset, along different gadgets. He can also use different kinds of dinosaur-like creatures from Super Bomberman series on his moveset. Bomberman's Final Smash is Chain Bomb, in which, Bomberman runs and drops a lot of bombs, causing a chain reaction making a giant explosion.
Dr. Mario is back from Melee! He is now a transformation from Mario, like Sheik. Dr. Mario is slightly faster than Mario, though he is slightly less powerful than him. He shares a variation of Mario's Mario Finale, known as Virus Infectation, in which he fires three giant beams, each one having a color based from the Viruses from Dr. Mario. It is faster than Mario's Mario Finale, but less powerful.
Mega Man is back on the Brawl! Like Pac-Man, his moves were changed to fit the Brawl's psychics and gameplay. His Final Smash is still the same as the 4th game, with no diferences.
Midna joins the Brawl! She has a lot of long ranged moves, due her hair that can be turned into a fist, she also uses it as a grab and as a recovery move. Midna's Final Smash is Twilight Princess, in which she turns into her true self and gives a strong attack at the opponent, like Link's Triforce Slash. nb
Replaces the regular Battlefield. It has the same layout as the normal Battlefield, but it takes place inside a giant clock instead being a floating arena.
A new stage based on the opening of Super Smash Bros., the stage's layout is basically the same as the one that was on the opening movie and there are no hazards. Occasionally, Master Hand on his Super Smash Bros. incarnation may appear on the background.
Retro Mushroomy Kingdom
Replaces Mushroomy Kingdom to be more like the original Super Mario Bros. style. No other changes were made on the level.
A new stage based on the battle against Giygas in Earthbound. The arena is a big coliseum with Giygas appearing on the background. Giygas will get hurt from the players attacks causing the arena to become distorted or other random changes.
New Assist Trophies
Shovel Knight digs to battle! He walks around and attacks the players with his shovel. He can even downthrust his shovel and bounce off enemies!
Pichu zaps his way back to battle!... As an assist. Why he is an assist trophy instead of a Pokéball? I dunno. Pichu follows you and if you get damaged, Pichu counterattacks the opponent that attacked.
Ridley gets a promotion! Now he is an Assist Trophy, he acts pretty much the same way he acted on the boss battle.
Metal Sonic programs his next target! Metal Sonic flies over the stage and if there is an opponent below, he shoots a powerful laser on them.
Those bosses can be only fought on the The True Boss Rush mode.
Cynthia, the Pokémon champion of Sinnoh, fights you using all her six Pokémon. Even though she is considered one boss, after defeating one of the her Pokémon, the player returns to the Rest Room and then the next fight is one of her next Pokémon.
Mephiles the Dark fights using teleportation and more powerful versions of Sonic's moves. Mephiles can also use Chaos Control to slow time of the opponents close to him, so don't get too close of him.
